The Exquisite Fold – a new collaborative bookwork by Jonathan Carson and Rosie Miller

Jonathan Carson and Rosie Miller’s new artist’s book, The Exquisite Fold, will be launched at the Second Manchester Artist’s Book Fair on Saturday 29 September, 2007 at Holden Gallery, Manchester Metropolitan University.

Using the surrealist game of exquisite corpse as a starting point, Carson and Miller use the book to explore notions of play, exchange, belief and narrative. The Exquisite Fold has been conceived in collaboration with Dr. Patricia Allmer and Dr. John Sears (Manchester Metropolitan University), whose essay, ‘Dare You Play On?’, is featured within the book.
The book, which includes an audio CD, is produced in an limited edition of 100 and costs £7.99. The Exquisite Fold will be available from the Righton Press stand at the Second Manchester Artist’s Book Fair, Holden Gallery, Manchester Metropolitan University on Saturday 29th September, 2007 OR the book may be ordered directly from Jonathan Carson

You Can Observe A Lot By Looking

Tim Machin is showing in London, at St Pauls Gallery, Bow, London E3 5JL. You Can Observe A Lot By Looking, is an exhibition of work by artists who, whilst being diverse in material and means, each have common ground in their interest in the difference between reality and representation. Images and objects from the familiar world are manipulated: transformed and subverted in such a way that they allude to a place that lies somewhere between fiction and reality.

Each artist has a considered, varying, and playful process, the final outcome of which often has an implied simplicity or subtlety that demands closer inspection and reflection from the viewer.

The exhibition brings together a diverse yet cohesive group of emerging and established artists. Each individual derives a sense of wonder and pleasure from what is considered commonplace and even mundane in daily life. Challenging perceptions is a common theme in each artist’s work, where a slight suspension of reason or purpose may occur and known rules and boundaries become blurred.
